The previous evening, a couple of the waiters at the hotel made the kind offer to show me around a little. I had told them I was interested in seeing the city center, lighthouse, museum, casino, and the statue of Ovid. They seemed very eager. We met on this gloomy morning in the hotel lobby. I drove and they directed. The first stop was the lighthouse. I was heartbroken because the one I'd envisioned was not there. This one was built in the 1950's and is a very impressive structure, but not the right one. |
