After breakfast it was time for a trial—meet the ladies for a coffee. For the most part I just sat and enjoyed the lively conversation of the aunts and cousins without understanding a word. It was fun to wonder what was being said. Turkish coffee was served with cakes and plums. I studied the Romanian method of plum pitting carefully before I got brave and went for one. I didn't want to have to imagine them later on saying "Did you see the way that guy ate his plums?"
