After dinner, N had to get to the TV and check up on the football (soccer) game. This was deadly serious business and required his total attention. Unfortunately, it was at that time that I decided to see if my TV-Be-Gone would work in Romania. I don't know why I chose to do my foolhardy experiment at this time. Perhaps it was the first time the TV was on. Well, I did it, it worked, and N hopped up instantly to turn it back on. But it wouldn't come on! I frantically dashed over and did my best. Luckily there was another TV in the bedroom and off he went. I was trembling. What had I done? Had the American turnoff code ruined the Romanian TV? Would I have to admit this terrible misdeed to my kind and sweet hosts? What kind of  "ambassador" am I? Then, for some reason I changed the channel. WHEW! The powers that be granted me a reprieve. It was OK. Somehow it was set on a dead channel. I did admit all this later on in during my stay. I'll never be sure what N thought of my youthful pranks.
