Uncle N. gave N. a hard time for wearing a fluorescent vest on the evening trip: "What's with this fancy vest—all of a sudden you got smart? Maybe you should drive!" If you ask me, anything that would make us more visible to the cars and trucks on the road, especially in the dark, was quite smart indeed! I finally got to experience the horse-cart-on-the-road from the other side. It was a bit nerve racking (to put it mildly) and I couldn't believe the attitude of the drivers who would honk their horns right next to us. I could have throttled them!
