A section of street was blocked off for a small book fair. I love book fairs but when the books are in Romanian they're difficult for me to understand unless they're art books. I can at least partially understand pictures. This stall, however, was aimed directly at me as they were selling books in English. The Anthony Frost English Bookshop had a wonderful collection under the umbrella and I did not walk away empty handed: "The House of the People", "The Story of Stuff", "Never Mind the Balkans, Here's Romania", and "Bucharest Tales". The "Never Mind..." title really caught my attention. For a long time I've been frustrated in American bookstores because if there are any Eastern European books they're about Serbia. If you want all the attention, have a war. I found out later that the "Bucharest Tales" stole a poem translation from my website. I guess I should feel honored! |
